Education Editor
Nirvi Shah is education enterprise editor, working with USA Today's national education reporting team and Gannett education reporters across the country. She recently spent a year as a Spencer fellow in education reporting at Columbia University. Prior to that, she spent eight years as an editor and reporter for POLITICO, in the U.S. and Europe. She was the founding editor of the POLITICO Pro Education policy team before becoming the deputy managing editor for all of POLITICO Pro’s policy teams. She also oversaw the expansion of policy coverage for POLITICO from the seat of the European Union, and over the years, launched a wide range of subscription and consumer news products for POLITICO on both sides of the pond. Before joining POLITICO, she worked as special education and school climate and culture reporter at Education Week, covering school safety, health, discipline and nutrition. Her work exposed flaws in federal data collection about schools' use of suspension and expulsion and drew attention to the uneven use of these disciplinary practices. She previously covered education, then personal finance and consumer affairs, at The Miami Herald and also wrote about education and county government for The Palm Beach Post. She has won a number of education reporting awards, as well as a Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade award in deadline reporting with colleagues at the Post.
