Disney Channel is getting a little nostalgic with its latest show pickup.

The cable network, which is aimed at children and their families, has ordered a new comedy series, Girl Meets World, that is rooted in ABC's popular 1990s comedy, Boy Meets World. Production will begin this summer in Los Angeles, with the premiere scheduled for 2014.

Girl features Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel reprising their Boy characters Cory and Topanga, this time not as teens but as the parents of a girl, Riley (Rowan Blanchard, 11, of Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D). Sabrina Carpenter (Sofia the First) will play Riley's best friend, Maya.

Boy Meets World's Michael Jacobs and April Kelly are the creators of the new series. Jacobs is executive producer.

"Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self-discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens. In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter, Riley Matthews ... and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans," Disney Channels Worldwide executive vice president Adam Bonnett said in a statement.

Girl will be set in New York, where Riley and her friend, Maya, are in middle school. Riley's parents aren't far away, however, as her father is the girls' new history teacher and her mother owns an after-school gathering place that specializes in pudding.

"Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular," Jacobs said in a statement.
